Definition: The PlayStation Portable, or PSP, is a handheld game console manufactured by Sony. It was released in Japan in 2004 and 2005 in Europe and North America.

The PSP is primarily a game console (PSP games are on UMD or Universal Media Disc, format), but can also play movies in UMD format. Using memory stick, the PSP can play music files and video and image files as display pictures. This portable system can also connect to Internet through a web browser (not incuded in the early versions of firmware) and built in Wi-Fi.

As its name suggests, the PSP – or PlayStation Portable – is a version smallest and lightest of the Sony PlayStation. It's not as powerful as the PS2, but more potent than the original PlayStation, and has an integrated speaker screen not connect anything to use.

Sony also announced an add-on camera and a GPS unit for use with the PSP, expand its capabilities.
